God Has it Covered
Several weeks ago, I received a message from Helen that made my heart sink.
She said “we’ve run out of funds,” with respect to building the Kabwe Baby’s Home. I honestly didn’t know what to do, and I told her that. We agreed, we must pray, so we did.
By the end of that first day, something happened. I hadn’t shared about the deficit with anyone but the Lord, yet that evening, my 8-year old son came to me, almost in tears saying “I want to give to Zambia.” I was surprised, not because he was being generous, but because of the timing. He went on to tell me how he wanted to give 1/3 of his money to the kids in Zambia “because they need it more than I do.”
I pressed him for more information, hoping to discover a motive, wondering if somehow he could’ve known about the need. There was nothing. I accepted his offer, but told him that in the morning, we’d review some scriptures on giving and saving, because both are Biblical. I wasn’t trying to discourage him from giving, I genuinely just wanted to be sure he wasn’t feeling some kind of pressure. He walked away and then turned back after a few steps, “Mom, I want to give to Zambia because of the passage in Matthew. Do you remember when the poor widow gave? She only had 2 coins, but God said it was more than anyone else had given. I don’t have that much, but I want to be like her.” He was fighting back tears after sharing this and I knew his heart had been moved by God.
I was undone.
God had seen and whispered the need to my son, who was led to help without even knowing there was a significant need. I praised my boy and sent him off to bed.
In the morning, I shared the story with Helen. She too was deeply touched. We both had such peace knowing that if God could move the heart of this boy, He could move the hearts of others and ensure the baby home was brought to completion.
As time went on, I shared this story with a handful of people, one who is closely connected to a much larger ministry about an hour north of us. I had met with the leadership of this ministry in June and they had said “you have an open door here,” a statement that carries a lot of weight for me as I always say “If a door opens, I’ll walk through it unless the Lord says not to.”
This was God’s networking in advance.
He had placed it on that family member’s heart to connect us, we followed through, and a relationship began. Later, when I shared the above story with the family member, I was encouraged to reach out to this ministry with details about the need including: estimated dollars to completion, budget, goals, details on Helen’s network to help place future orphaned babies, etc.
I typed up several pages and sent it off.
Shortly after, the ministry stated they’d fund the roof to protect the investment. Helen and I were overwhelmed.
“…for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them. You might even be found opposing God!…” Acts 5:39
“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.” Isa 65:24
Time and time again, we’ve had to place this all back into the Lord’s hands. If you know me well, and have spoken to me about this, you’ve heard me say “I can not make anything happen,” and I believe that. I can not make people care. I can not make people be generous. I will not strive, force, or attempt to manipulate people for a project, ministry, or any other thing, because I truly believe “if it is from God, you will not be able to stop (it).”
The Kabwe Baby’s Home is the Lord’s, from start to finish and for all of it’s days. He sees, He hears, He knows the needs before we do, and He has an answer in mind when all we see is the problem. Hallelujah!
I hope this encourages you, especially those of you who have continued to support this effort in Zambia. We believe we are tapped into the Lord’s work there, and thanks to you and so many others, it continues. His arm is not too short.
A special thanks to that family member for following the promptings of God to connect me to International Children’s Fund. To the leadership at ICF, thank you for partnering with us in this endeavor. Because of you all, we are so much closer to abandoned babies being welcomed into a loving home.
Lastly continued thanks to those of you who have helped with one time giving, monthly support, or joined in praying for these lives. You all keep clothes on the volunteers backs, food in orphans stomachs, and hands to the plow.
